First, I need to apologize to a few guys: Chris, Jonny, Will, and Guy. You get a million bonus points if you already know who I’m talking about. If you don’t, please understand that these are the four musical gods who make up the band Coldplay. Anyway, I was so excited to hear Coldplay was working on another album as my brother and I followed the updates online ever since word got out about it a little over a year ago. And then when I heard that their single “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” was soon to be released, it was as if my ears couldn’t wait another moment before listening. The title alone intrigued me to no end. And then…I heard it. And I was not in love. It immediately took me back to the days of X&Y which is probably my least favorite Coldplay album. I was disappointed and heartbroken. That dislike then turned me off to the other singles they released (although “Moving to Mars” was much, much better). A few weeks ago they released their new single “Paradise” and, even though I was nervous, I purchased it on iTunes anyway. It was almost like a sighed a huge sigh of musical relief when I heard it. It is still very X&Y-ish, but I like it ten thousand times better than “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall.” So Chris, Guy, Will, and Jonny, I’m sorry. I’m sorry I doubted your abilities. I will always love you, you know that. You just have to be patient with my musical mood swings. In other news-you’ll be in Germany the day before I am set to depart Europe to go back to the States. Make it up to me and do a U.S. tour in the summer of 2012? Thanks!
Second, I must express my apprehension/excitement at Mitch Hurwitz’s announcement that Arrested Development will be coming back for one season before the release of their feature film in 2013. I managed to watch all three seasons of Arrested Development in about a week after getting the first season for Christmas last year. I will never forget the night that I got back to school from Christmas break and watched the third season almost all the way through with my friend Derek. Maybe it was the fact that we watched it until about 2 or 3am, but I could not stop laughing at some of the antics on that show. It’s subtle humor that not everyone appreciates, but it completely cracks me up. From Buster’s prosthetic hand, to Gob’s magic show (“They’re illusions…. tricks are what a whore does for money!”), to Egg (her?), to the romantic tension between George Michael and Maeby, to Tobias’ one-liners, to Franklin’s “It Ain’t Easy Being White”, this show is pure brilliance. I feel like I should be super excited for an additional season and a feature film, but I am nervous that I’ll just be disappointed. This show had 3 great seasons and ended on a high note. Why ruin it by coming back and possibly disappointing the huge AD fanbase out there? Maybe I just need to have more of an open mind, but I just want to remember these characters for what they were. It’ll be weird to see ‘where they’ve been’ for the past five years. I am excited, but I am also nervous about the whole idea. Hopefully it’ll be as funny as the three seasons were.
Third, I am a little bit sick of hearing about how good 50/50 is. Mainly because the movie theaters in Bratislava don’t have it yet, and my heart is aching for some Joseph Gordon-Levitt, haha. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch it on DVD when I am back home.
Finally, this video is so completely precious. She is trying so hard yet just can’t get it down. This is probably the hardest part of her day, too, which makes me feel so nostalgic for childhood and the innocence of being young.
