Scratching 10 Things off our Bucket List on 10/10/10

12 Oct

My roommates and I recently made a Bucket List of things to complete before the end of our senior year in college. Among the fifty items are goals such as: TP a house, have a glow stick dance party, find Batman in the cemetery, going to each other’s houses, go to the school observatory, eat at The Toast and more.

Last night, in honor of 10/10/10, we decided to scratch ten things off our list. We also decided to begin doing these things at 10pm. Needless to say, it was an evening of epic proportions and wound up being one of the BEST nights of the year so far. Let me take you through the night.

Item #39: Make s’mores at the campus eternal flame

We began at 10pm by gathering a bag of graham crackers, Hershey’s chocolate bars, and ginormous marshmallows and heading to the front of Decker Hall and the campus eternal flame with our friends Josh, Brennan, and Matt. Matt warned us that the student handbook stipulates that we’d be fined $50 per marshmallow if caught by campus security committing this delicious crime. But we didn’t care! We were rebels dedicated to checking this item off our bucket list! And check it off we did!

After arriving at the eternal flame we scouted the area for potential spies (aka glanced around) and opened our bag of goodies. We quickly put our marshmallows on the skewers and began roasting! Most of my friends didn’t mind or notice the gasoline taste of the marshmallows but I didn’t particularly enjoy it, so after one bite Brennan ate the rest of mine. I also accidentally dropped most of my marshmallow in a bush.

We felt like such rebels whilst roasting our marshmallows. Any time a car would drive by someone would yell “CAR!” and we’d laugh about ducking down. At one point we saw someone walking on the outside of Decker and Tiffany yelled “PERSON!” and then worried that they’d go tell security what we were doing.

“DUCK!!!!!!!”

Mmmmmmmmmm

Brennan enjoys his s’more

Nom nom

Nice, Matt

Then we moved onto the second item of the night…..

Item #31: Swim in Helios

After getting our s’more on at the eternal flame, we headed over to Helios, the fountain that sits outside one of our academic buildings. Our goal was to ‘splash around’ in Helios, but I was ready to get drenched! So while Tiffany and Ricci dipped their toes in at the beginning, I stood on the edge and just jumped in without a moment’s hesitation! It was AWESOME. I kind of wished I had done this before my senior year, because it was a lot of fun! Tiffany, Ricci, Matt and I splashed around while Josh and Brennan looked on and snapped photos. It was such a fun experience, and as I was splashing around in the water, squealing and wiping the water from my face, I was thinking “This is what it means to have a great college moment.”

Reacting as Matt splashes water on me

We both look like we’re making pirate faces, hah

Our faces here are absolutely HILARIOUS

Getting Brennan :)

Drenched!!!

After swimming in Helios we went back to our apartment to get changed into dry clothing and prepare for…..

Item #1: Glow stick dance party

This one required a lot less planning than the previous two ventures of the night. Tiffany broke out a ridiculous amount of glow sticks, we turned on some hip hop, turn off the lights, and got dancing! We even took the party out to the balcony for a little bit. It was a lot of fun, and looking at the photos later (which were all taken in the dark but look light due to the flash) is even funnier.

Brennan and Josh bust a move!

Hahahahhahahahah

Ahahhahaahahahahahahahahahahahah

Hahha, get it!

After the glow stick dance party was over, we quickly moved on to

Item #6: Build a fort

This doesn’t need a whole lot of explanation. We simply took an extra mattress, our couches, and a lot of blankets and assembled a fort in the living room. Man…it seemed so easy when we were kids :) After it was built we all piled underneath for about 2 minutes (boy, was it hot in there!)

Josh, Brennan, and Tiffany work on assembling the fort

Ricci’s head popping out of the fort!

The girls relaxing in the fort!

Here come the boys!!

All of us, relaxing in the fort :-)

Once our fort was torn down and the living room brought back to normal, we gathered some supplies for a future item, and headed out to complete

Item #4: Late night donut run

Every student at our university understands what a donut run means. It means a walk (or, in this case, drive) to Deluxe Donuts, home of the best donuts in Anderson. Our school newspaper even offers a Deluxe Donut coupon in every issue. No semester is complete without at least one late night donut run to Deluxe. And this just happened to be the perfect moment for us to go.

After finishing our delectable treats, we hopped back into Tiffany’s car for

Item #28: Cruising late at night

Cruising (cruisin) has been a favorite hobby of ours since freshman year, when the ‘Nike’ trips taken by Tiffany, Lori, and I often involved driving around Anderson at late hours listening to music with our hands out the window and feeling the wind on our faces. This time we drove around and danced our hearts out to some awesome hip hop music.

In the middle of cruisin Josh decided to teach us how to Ghost Ride the Whip. We pulled into an empty parking lot, jumped out of the car, turned the music up really loud, Tiffany put the car in drive and jumped out herself. We then laughed and danced around the car ‘that was being driven by a ghost’. It was really fun, and for one split second we worried that Tiffany’s car would hit a pole about 30 ft ahead. Haha.

Ghost ride the whip!!!!!

After cruisin around for a little bit, we headed back towards campus for one of the main events of the night…

Item #19: TP a house

Earlier in the night we’d gathered about four rolls of toilet paper from our apartment with the intention of TPing the house of some of our beloved friends-Zach and Jason. We first checked that all of the lights were turned off at the house, parked at a parking lot nearby, and stalked our way over to the house. Since many of their trees didn’t have low branches, we strung toilet paper from their fences, porch, railings, and around their cars. We did put a little around their trees as well. At one point Brennan tossed a roll of toilet paper up toward a tree only for it to fall on the other side without leaving any toilet paper in the tree. We busted out laughing and I had to bite onto my roll to keep from laughing too loudly. When we all were finished we made our way back to the car, gave high fives, and laughed about how Josh and Ricci had lost their TPing v-cards.

Completing the act!

The TPing adventure was the end of our time with the boys, because it was time for the girls to accomplish

Item #25: Sleepover

Tiffany pulled a spare mattress into Ricci and my bedroom (Bedroom #1) for a girls sleepover. Given that it was already about 1:30am, we were dead tired, so it wasn’t as exciting as it could’ve been. But it was all about checking the item off our list.

We then checked off

Item #34: Pillow talk

Pillow talk for us gals was the normal girly stuff. Which boys we’d kiss, which boys we’d marry, which boys we wanna date. Just kidding, just kidding……or am I? :-)

On top of pillow talk, we decided to  scratch off

Item #37: write a new song

Since freshman year Tiffany and I have been writing songs. We’re the sole singers/songwriters of “Hello Jesus”©, “You Hold the Key”©, “Rapz for Brennan”©, and “Respond!”©. We wanted to write a new song, this time in honor of our friend Josh.

Here are the lyrics we have so far: (keep in mind we wrote this around 2am)

Oh my gosh, look its Josh

Walking down the street to his own beat

Don’t know where he’s going

Don’t know where he’ll be

All I know is he lives with Lee

He’s got red hair and his skin’s so white

When it comes to playing poker he’s got lots of might

Just give him chips and some cards and he’ll play like a pro

Play some music real loud and he’ll drop it real low

Yo this kid might not be what he seems

But I’ll tell you what he’s the man of my dreams

Don’t give him any lip cause he’ll ghost ride the whip

And man, he sure can do that flip!

We hope to expand on the lyrics in the future and put a video together for dear old Josh. Check back later for a new music video from Soul Singin in the Bedroom :-)

And thus we met our goal to accomplish 10 things from our bucket list on 10/10/10. It was one of the best nights of my college career by far. We just threw all inhibitions toward the wind and went for it, and I’m glad we did. I would say my favorite part of the night was definitely jumping in Helios or Ghost Ridin the Whip. We all just had an awesome time together and I think it is definitely a night all of us will remember forever. :-)

I just read this again… man, what a good night. Sometimes I wish I could stop the clocks and slow down time. I think I may print this out and frame it and hang it on my wall in my own house after graduation. Then, I will someday tell this story to my children and grandchildren and they will never believe their lil ol grandma did these crazy things.
